Every year for the last 20 or so years, I've sequinned holiday pins for charity. This is a long standing tradition of the Charity League where I grew up. The League has designed pins for 60 or more years and sold them to raise funds for a number of different service agencies and organizations.
Last fall when I wondered what I could do to raise more money for the American Cancer Society Middle Keys Relay for Life, inspiration struck. I could design and make pink ribbon pins to celebrate awareness and survivorship, and accept donations (sell them) for the cause. After a little trial and error, I came up with a combination of sequins and beads that I liked. Precise cutting is not my strong suit, so I had to work out a few scissoring issues. The biggest challenge, it turns out, was finding supplies. Craft stores sell packs of sequins of mixed colors, but I couldn't find any of just pink. Thank goodness for the Internet! Seek and ye shall find -- if you Google the right words.
Everything worked out, and here is the result.

The pin is about two inches long with shiny deep pink sequins and a mix of light pinky-lavender crystals and opaque pink beads.
The 2008 Relay for Life is over in our town, but I have seven pins left which I am making available for donations of $11.00 each (includes the cost of shipping). All proceeds will benefit the 2009 Relay.
If you would like a pin for yourself, or someone you know, please email me at mary@mary-stella.com and I'll give you the PayPal information.
Thanks in advance!
