You know, sometimes we have opportunities to take the high road and then there are times when you just can't pass up the cheap jokes.

Today, courtesy of the brilliant Carl Hiaasen's column in the Miami Herald, I learned that the Florida senate is making progress toward making it illegal for humans to have sex with animals. 

I'm not sure what part of this surprises me the most:  That a state which last year defined marriage as between one man and one woman in order to ban gay marriages didn't previously have laws that prevented a man from porking a pig, or that there's apparently enough concern about the possibility of bestiality that the lawmakers are working on the bill now, or that anybody actually wants to do the wild thing with, well, a wild thing.

I mean, even speaking as one who's on a fairly long hiatus from the horizontal mambo, when I say I love my dogs I mean with my heart and no other body part.

To the guy who apparently kicked off the need for this law for instigating unconsentual carnal knowledge of a goat (During which the poor goat died.), I want to ask, "Are dates with women so hard to come by?  Were you too broke for a hooker?  Does doing a goat mean no baaack talk?"

I love animals, in a purely platonic way, so if this bill protects one innocent family pet or farm animal, then good for the legislators.

On the other hand, I do not want to think that this could be at all a wide-spread problem in our fair state.  That's just too Ewwwwww.  (Or, if you're ovine, ewwwwwe.)
